The column with speakers
This column plays music through two Radioshack speakers from CD player. The music that I used came from: Underground stream. This column also had two red LED lights that lit the sidewalk. The speakers were powered from a 12v Radioshack AC/DC converter and the LEDs were powered from a different 12v converter.
The column with the pop-up pumpkin
The pumpkin popped up every time a trick or treater came up to the door via a parking stop light. The ultrasonic sensor saw the trick or treaters and when they got close enough, the stop light turned red which sent a signal to the BASIC stamp by a photo resistor. The mechanism that lifts the pumpkin is the part that moves the printer head in a printer. All of the power for this column is from a modified computer power supply. The strobe light turns on only when the pumpkin is in action.
The main column
This column did nothing except sit there.
Overview
The fence was made from some old 2x4s and some rotting logs that were lying around from a storm we had a few years ago. They were held up with copper pipes and wood sticks.
Overall the project was a success. It took a while to get the motion detector sensing the trick or treaters to work properly, but after that everything ran smoothly.
